Nunca Vettel tinha levado o campeonato na última corrida da temporada, e com uma pontuação tão baixa em relação ao 2º, até então, Fernando Alonso. Separados por 13 pontos no início da corrida, chegou a 3 pontinhos no final. Vettel foi campeão com 281 pontos, seguido de Alonso com 278 pontos. No campeonato de construtores, a Red Bull deu um baile em Ferrari e McLaren. Podemos destacar, Felipe Massa e Kimi Räikkönen, além dos novatos Sergio Perez e Pastor Maldonado.
