The owner of a new 991-generation 2012 Porsche 911 has posted a short video of his car on YouTube under the alias "tmayeli", where he seeks the assistance of the online community to trace a problem with his ride.

From the clip, we hear a thumping noise when he turns the steering wheel at low speeds.

We don't have a lot of details to shed on this, but the owner stated that he took the 991 to a Porsche dealer after hearing the sound, which he says is sourced from the front end of the car. The dealer told him that this is something normal when outside temperatures are under 40 Fahrenheit or 4 degrees Celsius.

If you’re a Carscoop regular, or if your memory is strong enough, you may recall the Singer 911 we featured back in 2011. It’s a custom-made 911 built by Los Angeles-based Singer Vehicle Design that wanted to create the ultimate air-cooled Porsche.

In spite of starting with the classic 911 chassis, which was manufactured until 1989, Singer decided to switch to the more modern 964 that replaced it – and that meant a whole lot of development.

Truth be told, 911 purists mostly considered the all-wheel drive version of Porsche’s icon to be less desirable than the rear-wheel drive model as the latter had a better steering feel.

The same lot was disheartened to learn that the new model, aka the 991, has switched from a hydraulically assisted to an electric power steering in the name of fuel economy.

The easiest way to tell a Porsche 911 Turbo from a 911 GT3 when they're running wild on a fast circuit like the Green Hell and on top of that, they're plastered in black camouflage, is to try to take a look at the exhaust pipes.

You see, the milder Turbo edition has two outlets on either side of the rear diffuser while the rougher GT3 sports two centrally mounted pipes.

While some tend to believe that certain cars are like a fine bottle of wine that improves with age, truth is that, once you begin counting a vehicle's age in decades, the more attention it needs to keep it up and running.

When time came to spruce up his car, this owner of the classic 993-generation Porsche 911 GT2 from the mid-1990s, decided to not only restore but also turn the German sports coupe into a street-legal track racer.

There are many ways to modify a Porsche 911, but to be candid, turning Stuttgart's sports car into a three-seater of sorts featuring a 1+2 seating arrangement with the driver positioned in the center, is something that never really crossed our minds.

Which brings us to this creation named the "Centro 911" built by Nigel Tuckey from Trinity Motorsports in Lima, Ohio.

When Porsche introduced the 997-generation 911 GT2 RS in May of 2010, it was not only the most powerful series production 911 ever built, but also the most powerful road going Porsche period.

In factory trim, the €237,578 (about US$310,300 at today's rates) was blessed with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry allowing for an output of 612hp (620PS) a peak torque of 700Nm (516 lb-ft).

Nevertheless, that wasn't enough for German tuning brand Wimmer RS, which has introduced a special package aimed at any of the 500 owners of the 997 GT2 RS that want to take their car to the next level .

We had heard the rumors that Porsche was evaluating a PDK dual clutch transmission for the new 991-generation of its hardcore 911 GT3 in place of the traditional manual gearbox that has been around ever since the series was introduced in 1999, but now we have the first photographic proof of it.

A member of the Gearstage forums spotted prototypes of both the Porsche 918 Spyder and 911 GT3 somewhere in San Francisco, USA, and was able to get close enough to nab some pictures of the 991-series GT3's interior.

Throw us the keys to any one of these two sports cars, and we will gladly take them for a very, very long spin without a second thought. And all for good reason.

While the GT-R has entered its fifth year in production, it doesn’t realty show its age in any other departments than the styling and the interior, which to be honest, wasn't anything special to begin with.

In many ways, the GT-R was years ahead of the competition when it debuted in 2007, and let's not forget, Nissan has been religiously tweaking and upgrading it every year.

Companies all over the world seem hell-bent on bringing carbon fiber and its weight and strength advantages into the hands of the everyday motorist.

After Ford’s display of a prototype CFRP bonnet earlier this week, Australian-based company Carbon Revolution launched the CR9, the world’s first one-piece production carbon fiber wheel.

Carbon Revolution says that this is the result of “nearly a decade” of research and development. The benefits in weight and rigidity have been established both by its own testing as well as with premium European OEMs.

It’s like a rite of passage: at some point in its life, preferably at an early stage, a sports car has to prove its credentials at the 20.6 km (12.8-mile) arena that is the “old” Nürburgring. Even more so, when it's a Porsche, for which it’s a matter of honor.

Enter the all-new 911, aka the 991, in 394bhp (400PS) Carrera S guise with a PDK dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox and stock tires.

Timo Kluck, who was behind the steering wheel, piloted the new 911 around the ‘Ring in a blistering 7.37:9 on August 28, though Porsche officially released the video just a few days ago.

Finding a very low mileage example of the last air-cooled Porsche and arguably, one of the best interpretations of the classic 911 styling, the 993 manufactured and sold between late 1993 and early 1998, isn't as hard as one would think.

In fact, upon looking on eBay today, we discovered three pristine 911s from the 1993-1998 era, all of which have less than 4,500 miles on them.

The oldest of the three is a 1996 Porsche 911 C2, or Carrera 2, that describes the rear-wheel drive base model. It is finished in a special order Turquoise Metallic paint, which brings to mind memories of the 1989 Porsche Panamericana Concept.

The car's 3.6-liter boxer engine is linked to a six-speed manual gearbox and has covered only 3,745 miles (6,025 km) since new. The highest bid at the time we wrote this piece was $40,100 (€30,800), but the seller's reserve had not been met.

Up until now, the Boxster hasn't been able, even in top S guise, to threaten the base 911. Understandably, Porsche has been careful to keep its rear-engine icon always a step or two ahead of the popular roadster model.

However, Car&Driver magazine thinks that with the new 991 and 981, i.e. the seventh generation 911 and the third generation Boxster, the scales might have tipped in favor of the latter.

Both cars are powered by the same 3.4-liter flat-six and feature a new electric steering, which has caused some criticism. The 911, though, has its engine hung out in the back, as it has done for the past four decades, while the Boxster sports a mid-engine layout.

Talk to most people about the current Porsche Panamera's biggest flaw, and they are very likely to point towards its exterior design. Porsche’s foray in the segment may be a fine sports saloon featuring a nicely crafted interior, but its bodywork is unexciting to some, ugly to most.

Company CEO Matthias Muller talked to Motor Trend at the Paris Auto Show and said some very interesting things about the company's future models.

First of all, Muller revealed that the head- and taillights of the Panamera Sport Turismo concept, which was displayed in Paris, will gradually be applied to all Porsche models, starting with the Macan compact luxury SUV that’s due next year.
