Mercedes-Benz launched its revised E-Class range at the Detroit Motor Show and its currently rolling out one commercial after another about its new products – even about the CLA that won’t be launched until Geneva.

The first rule in successfully promoting any product is to know who your target group is; whom you are going to sell it to and what they expect. Obviously, the E 63 AMG with its 557HP in standard form and 577HP in S-Model guise is not exactly aimed at those who simply want a premium luxury sedan or station wagon.

Mercedes-Benz Showcases 2014 E-Class Active Safety Systems on Film

Earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz completed the update of the E-Class sedan and Estate/Wagon range with the presentation of the almighty AMG variants.

The new snout and re-worked body of the E63 AMG Sedan and Wagon tell only half the story as Mercedes also boosted the standard twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 to 550HP (557PS) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm), and enhanced the lineup with all-wheel drive 4MATIC versions and an even more powerful S model rated at 577HP and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm).

Look at Them Go: Mercedes' New E63 AMG and E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC

Apparently, giving the E 63 AMG a new face like the rest of the updated 2014 E-Class range that will bow at next week's Detroit Motor Show and adding its 4MATIC all-wheel drive as an option wasn’t enough for Mercedes-Benz's performance division.

The Affalterbach crew fiddled around with the E63 AMG's twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8, too, increasing its boost pressure from 0.9 to 1.0 bar. As a result, it now it puts out 550HP (557PS) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque, an increase of 32HP and 15 lb-ft (20 Nm) over the outgoing model.

Since the standard E 63 AMG, which is available in saloon and estate forms, now has the same ponies as the previous car's optional AMG performance pack, they’ve also added the S-Model option that’s available with all-wheel drive and increases power to 577HP and torque to 590 lb-ft (800 Nm).

The standard model accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds, a figure that drops to 3.7 seconds (3.8 for the estate) in 4MATIC versions. The S-Model is a tenth of a second quicker, completing the sprint in 3.6 seconds for the saloon and 3.7 seconds for the estate, while all models have their top speed electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).

First Official Photo of Redesigned 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Sports Saloon

With the sedan and estate versions of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class having already gone under the knife for extensive cosmetic surgery, it was time for their coupe and convertible siblings to follow suit before their Detroit Motor Show premiere.

The two models that complete the revised 2014 model year E-Class range have also ditched the four separate front headlights in favor of one-piece units but, unlike the family-oriented versions, have kept the distinctive pontoon rear fenders of the previous model.

Mind you, Mercedes-Benz designers didn’t just slap on the saloon’s face on the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet. Instead, the single headlamps are more sculpted and feature different twin LED graphics, the grille gets a single bar (instead of two) supporting the three-pointed star and the bumper design is more aggressive, with an inverted central air intake and enlarged outer inlets.

At the rear, apart from the sculpted fenders, the 2014 models get a “wing design” rear bumper, chrome trim and new taillamps.

“Three words sum up both the E-Class Coupe and the four-seat Cabriolet model: captivating, athletic, passionate”, said Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing Dr. Joachim Schmidt. “It is especially pleasing that the two vehicles also incorporate the most intelligent technology ever. This makes them true dream cars.”

High-Res Picture Confirms that this is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Facelift

A reader of Spanish auto website Autofacil claims to have nabbed the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan without a dollop of camouflage. The photographer, Víctor Gutiérrez Poza, told the site that he caught the car from his room in the hotel Chamartín in Madrid, Spain.

While one can never be sure, the image does look legit to us. Moreover, it wouldn't be a first for a yet-to-be revealed Mercedes-Benz model to be filmed unguarded and undisguised out in the open, with the most recent case coming to mind being the CLA compacts sports saloon.

Scoop: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Facelift Pictured Undisguised?

Here's our first glimpse of the redesigned 2014 model Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG that will make its debut alongside the rest of the facelifted E-Class family, including the regular saloons, Estate, Convertible and Coupe models, early next year with sales to follow in spring.

The common denominator of these models is the smoother and more contemporary lines of the body, something mainly achieved through the replacement of the quartet of headlights with two single units and the scraping of the "Ponton" style rear fenders rear.
